Off at 08.30 through lock 6 at Frankford and on our way to Trenton and the exit to the waterway 5 locks downstream. Breakfast on board for a change – cereal with fresh fruit and bread and marmite! We reached Trenton at 11.30 and shook hands as we left the Waterway behind. Immediately past Trenton we came out into the Bay of Quinte and a great feeling of wide open water. We had decided to make our next stop at Picton about 30 miles away. This was a very nice ride, would have been a wonderful sailing day if we had the mast up and sails rigged. Lots of sailboats out in the bay enjoying the balmy sunny weather.
Carl made arrangements to overnight at Prince Edward Yacht Club right in Picton where we arrived at 5.30 pm, easy docking, small, friendly unpretentious club, perfect for our purposes. After checking in, a drink and a shower, we were ready to explore Picton, a charming and thriving community in Prince Edward County. We had recommendations to drink and or dine at the Acoustic Grill. or The Lounge behind Currah’s. We tried them all of course. Acoustic for beer and wings and to listen to a rather weird combo of ukulele, tuba and drums singing blues, then to Currah’s for a decent ‘fine dining’ dinner and then The Lounge for single malts and Drambuies and pool.
And thence to bed in the boat. Even though it was Saturday night the nightlife was muted at best, we gathered everyone had gone to Belleville to attend a Tragically Hip concert.
